Compact, powerful, and built for professional audio capture in any environment
Whether you're working on a film set, television production, or outdoor field recording, the Sennheiser MKH 8060 short shotgun microphone delivers the clean, detailed sound quality required for professional results. With a moisture-resistant RF condenser design, it performs reliably in humid or unpredictable conditions, making it ideal for location sound, ENG, and run-and-gun filmmaking.
The MKH 8060 is compact enough for use on-camera but powerful enough for boom pole setups. Its tight directivity, low self-noise, and high output provide mix-ready sound with minimal post-processing. There are no complex controls to manage on set, making it a dependable choice for fast-paced shoots where simplicity and reliability matter most.
This microphone features a supercardioid polar pattern at lower frequencies and transitions to a lobar pattern at higher frequencies. This design offers consistent off-axis rejection between 90° and 120°, attenuating ambient noise by 10 to 20 dB from 125 Hz to 1 kHz. Even sounds entering from the sides remain natural and undistorted, maintaining overall audio transparency.
Capture dialogue, foley, and sound effects with full dynamics and clarity, thanks to the MKH 8060’s wide frequency response, transformerless output, and high SPL handling.
Designed for outdoor professionals, the MKH 8060’s RF condenser technology makes it highly resistant to moisture, humidity, and condensation. Unlike traditional condenser mics, it won’t fail when the environment turns unpredictable. You can trust it to deliver high-quality sound in both controlled studio settings and rugged exterior shoots.
The MKH 8060 shares the same precise sonic signature as the other microphones in Sennheiser’s 8000-Series. It boasts a 50 Hz to 25 kHz frequency range, with a gentle presence lift above 3 kHz that enhances speech intelligibility. The natural bass roll-off helps minimize rumble from wind, handling, or ambient low-end noise.
With an impressively low self-noise of just 11 dBA and an ultra-sensitive -24 dB output, the MKH 8060 captures clean, detailed audio without relying heavily on gain or noise reduction in post.
This microphone features a 3-pin XLR output and operates on standard 44 to 52 VDC phantom power, making it compatible with most field recorders, audio mixers, and camera preamps. Its transformerless, fully floating balanced output ensures a clean signal path with minimal distortion or interference.
For productions requiring digital workflows, the MKH 8060 can be paired with the Sennheiser MZD 8000 digital module (sold separately). This converts the mic’s output to AES42 digital audio at resolutions up to 24-bit / 192 kHz, and allows remote DSP control for features like attenuation and low-cut filtering.
Thanks to its lightweight metal body and non-reflective Nextel coating, the MKH 8060 is discreet on camera and practical for both indoor and outdoor use. It comes with a standard mic clip for stand or boom mounting and can also be attached to a camera via a shoe-mounted shockmount, such as the SmallRig 1859.
For superior vibration isolation, consider using it with the Sennheiser MZS 20-1 shockmount and pistol grip system (available separately).
A foam windscreen is included to reduce unwanted wind noise from fans, breezes, and air conditioners. For more extreme wind protection in outdoor environments, pair it with the Sennheiser MZH 20-1 furry windshield (sold separately), which offers enhanced noise reduction without compromising clarity.
